Filament order

FB Fletcher Boyd Public Seen by 10

It's time for another filament order, lets start off with what materials people would like to see.

Poll Created Tue 30 Apr 2024 7:03AM

Material choices Closed Sat 4 May 2024 4:00AM

Outcome
by Fletcher Boyd Sat 4 May 2024 11:31AM

Our beginning filaments will be:

  • ASA - Utility

  • PETG - Utility

  • TPU - Utility

  • PLA - Colourful matte

Colour choices will come later depending on the results here.

Give each material a score between 1 and 5 based on how likely you would be to make use of that filament in the space. (5 being more likely)

ASA is awesome and I think having it available in the space is beneficial for a variety of use cases. Pla+ is kind of gross, usually more brittle and moisture absorbing than the non + varieties. Abs GF is good fun and really rigid, good for engineering parts. I don’t print Petg or pla at home, so voting for those because rainbows are cool

Largely do utilitarian prints. I feel we have enough colours now! I find PLA too brittle for utilitarian projects.

I know we've noted PLA above, but I've also found PLA+ to be excellent to print with. I typically print with PLA+ and PETG most commonly.

@Fletcher Still want me to bring some in for testing? I saw Penny had some spare, but I'm also happy to bring test filament.

@Adam Gardner All g, found a few rolls of esun pla+ laying around :)

AG

Adam Gardner Tue 30 Apr 2024 7:08AM

Secondly, I assume 5 is the most used and 1 the least used?

FB

Fletcher Boyd Tue 30 Apr 2024 7:12AM

@Adam Gardner Yep, clarified in poll desc :)

FB

Fletcher Boyd Tue 30 Apr 2024 7:13AM

Also fwiw some stuff might not end up included in this order if we don't have extraction close to done or dry filament storage etc.

FB

Fletcher Boyd Tue 30 Apr 2024 7:15AM

Also added TPU to the list, feel free to update your priorities over the course of the poll :)

Black/white are great, I like at least one accent colour for text/symbols - not really fussed which colour

Black and White are Core. Grey is nice to have Util. Red is the Artifactory Colour and probably the most useful accent colour.

Agree with other comments. Red is also probably the easiest to contrast/see against black, white and grey.

White is cosmetically utilitarian but structurally quite bad due to the titanium dioxide pigment. Would recommend “natural” in its place. Red is a good accent colour. Black and grey are my main primary colours

Grey tends to be the most used utility colour for me as it is neutral. The accent colour shouldn't be too bright, like a dark blue probably.
